After seven years of production, this luxurious mid-size crossover will allegedly receive a complete redesign and to come as 2020 Acura MDX. In the segment of large three-row crossovers, the MDX represents Honda’s luxury division for almost 18 year. For all these years, we have seen three generations of it. The current model is present since 2013. Seems like a perfect time to see some changes, despite that face that we saw a facelift a few years ago. Of course, novelties in all aspects are expected. First of all, count a a new platform, then on a completely new styling and interior design. This overhaul should bring some of the latest technologies too, as well as an updated powertrain lineup. All in all, lots of interesting things to expect.
2020 Acura MDX Redesign
Of course, the first thing we should discuss about is a new platform. Count on the Honda’s new architecture that has been presented in the new-generation Pilot, two years ago. This architecture brings lots of improvements. When comparing the current and previous generation of the Pilot, it’s not hard to notice significant improvement in terms of driving dynamics. Expect the same from the 2020 Acura MDX, along with improved efficiency, a higher level of comfort and much more. Also, the new platform will able to accommodate electrified powertrain, which indicate hybrid version in the future as well.
2020 Acura MDX Styling
Just like every redesign, this one will also brings lots of aesthetical novelties. In terms of overall layout, the new 2020 Acura MDX definitely won’t suffer bigger changes. We are about to see a familiar shape, a shape of a genuine family-oriented crossover, which comes with a dose of sportiness, thanks to numerous attractive details. Of course, the new design language will emphasized the visual appeal even more, though we don’t expect to see anything radical. The current generation has been updated a few years ago and it follows the brand’s newest design language pretty much entirely. Therefore, expect more evolutionary character of the changes. In terms of dimensions, we could see some minimal enlargements. A couple of more inches to the overall length and wheelbase is everything we can expect from the new 2020 Acura MDX.
2020 Acura MDX Interior
Another aspect where we expect to see lots of changes. The current model looks pretty good on the inside, but also features a big of hard plastics. So, this is one of the aspect where we could see improvements in terms of quality. In terms of legroom, the current model is already spectacular, so we don’t expect from Honda engineers to focus too much on this aspect. Of course, this amazing legroom refers to the first two rows of seating. Just like in other mid-size SUVs, the third one will be a little bit tight. Of course, count on more standard equipment, especially in terms of more tech features. We should see the latest gadgetry and connectivity features, as well as advanced driver aids and safety systems.
2020 Acura MDX Safety
Acura has always been strong in the aspect of safety and we have no doubt that the new model will continue in the same way. The current model already offers pretty generous list of standard safety features, which consists of things like lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking. Higher trims add surround-view camera system, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and much more. Without any doubt, the new generation will bring some new systems as well.
2020 Acura MDX Engine
A powerful V6 has always been one of the MDX’s signatures. The current model comes with a familiar 3.5-liter V6 which is good for about 290 horsepower. Most likely this engine will carry on, especially if we consider that the current model features one of the best fuel economy ratings in the class, with amazing 20 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway. Some reports also suggest a new 2.0-liter turbo inline-four, that can be found under the hood of new Accord. This engine would probably come as optional.
We count on a hybrid version too. The current model comes with a system that combines a V6 engine with three electric motors and delivers a total output of 321 horsepower. The new generation will probably keep a similar layout, but with improvements in efficiency, which will provide more power and better fuel economy. The current model already returns pretty amazingly 26 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway.
2020 Acura MDX Release Date and Price
Most likely, the new 2020 Acura MDX will come sometime in the second half of next year. The more precise launch date will be known in the future. Also, we don’t expect bigger changes in terms of price. The current model starts at around 45.000, while the hybrid starts at 53.000 dollars. Main competitors are models like Lexus RX, Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE Class, Volvo XC90 etc.
